Verdensungdomsfestivalen
Verdensungdomsfestivalen (eller World Festival of Youth and Students) er en internasjonal festival som er organisert av den venstreorienterte Verdenssambandet av Demokratisk Ungdom (World Federation of Democratic Youth) sammen med International Union of Students (IUS) fram til IUS ble lagt ned på 1990-tallet. Den største av festivalene ble avholdt i 1957 i Moskva med 34 000 deltakere fra 131 nasjoner. Denne festivalen var også den internasjonale debuten til sangen «Kvelder nær Moskva», som etterhvert har blitt kanskje den mest kjente av russiske sang.
Under den kalde krigen ble festivalene stort sett avholdt i folkedemokratier og ble benyttet i propaganda-øyemed.[1]
Den 17. festivalen skulle etter planen ha blitt arrangert i Minsk i Belarus i 2009[2], men landet trakk seg som arrangør i 2008.[3] Den 17. festivalen ble i stedet lagt til Sør-Afrika og ble arrangert i desember 2010.[4][5]
