Sir James Paul McCartney (født 18. juni 1942 i Liverpool, England) er en britisk musiker. Han var medlem av The Beatles (1957–70) og Wings (1971–80). I tillegg til å spille bass i The Beatles (og ved noen anledninger gitar, piano og slagverk) sto McCartney for mesteparten av låtskrivingen i gruppen sammen med John Lennon.
Paul McCartney er oppført i Guinness rekordbok som den mest fremgangsrike komponist av populærmusikk. Slår man sammen hans arbeid med og uten The Beatles har McCartney skrevet over 50 «top ten»-låter, mer enn noen annen komponist.
McCartney og John Lennon skrev det meste av musikken i The Beatles, og mange av McCartneys komposisjoner fra denne perioden, inkludert «Hey Jude», «Yesterday» og «Let It Be», er ofte rangert blant de aller beste sangene fra populærmusikkens historie. En annen sang skrevet av McCartney, «Helter Skelter», er ofte blitt kalt den aller første tungmetall-sang.
McCartneys karriere etter The Beatles har ikke vært mindre suksessrik. Som soloartist og med sin gruppe fra 1970-årene ved navn Wings maktet han 30 «top ten»-singler i England og USA, inkludert sanger som «Maybe I'm Amazed», «Live and Let Die», «Band on the Run», «Silly Love Songs», «Pipes of Peace» og en duett med amerikaneren Stevie Wonder, «Ebony and Ivory».
