Robert Bly

Robert Elwood Bly (født 23. desember 1926) er en amerikansk forfatter bosatt i Minnesota. Han har også arbeidet som psykolog.

Blys foreldre kom til USA fra Bleie i Hardanger. Etter studier ved Harvard og University of Iowa var Bly Fulbright-stipendiat i Norge for å oversette norsk litteratur til engelsk.

Bly er grunnlegger og redaktør av tidsskriftet The Fifties som særlig oversatte poesi. I 1966 var han en av grunnleggerne av organisasjonen The American Writers Against the Vietnam War.

Bly har utgitt et stort antall verker: poesi, mange oversettelser fra skandinaviske og andre språk, prosa og faglitteratur. Han har oversatt blant annet Knut Hamsun, Olav H. Hauge og Tomas Tranströmer til engelsk. Iron John fra 1990 ( Mannen i norsk oversettelse fra 1992 ) er en bok om mannlig psykologi som fikk stor oppmerksomhet.

Bly mottok i 2008 Amboltprisen for sitt arbeid med å gjøre Hauges diktning kjent.
