Stanley Jaki (2007)

Stanley L. Jaki (egentlig Szaniszló László Jáki; født 17. august 1924 i Győr i Ungarn; død 7. april 2009 i Madrid i Spania) var en ungarsk katolsk prest, fysiker og vitenskapsfilosof. Han tilhørte benediktinerordenen.

Liv og virke[rediger | rediger kilde]

Jaki trådte inn i benediktinerordenen etter vanlig skolegang, og studerte frem til doktorgrad ved Fordham University (1958), under Viktor Hess, medoppdageren av kosmisk stråling og nobelprisvinner. Etter sin doktordispustas forsket han innen området vitenskapsfilosofi ved Stanford University, University of California i Berkeley og Princeton University og ved Institute for Advanced Study. Siden 1976 underviste han i fysikk ved Seton Hall University i New Jersey.

Jaki skrev en rekke bøker om forholdet mellom vitenskapene og kristyendommen. I 1987 ble han tildelt Templetonprisen. Jaki var den første som foreslo at det gödelske ufullstendighetsteorem også kunne anvendes siom verdensformel.
