Bart D. Ehrman er en amerikansk forfatter, bibelforsker og professor religionsvitenskap ved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I Ebrmans forfatterskap om de tidlige kristne benytter han seg av begrepet «førortodoks» eller «proto-ortodoks» for å beskrive de kristne tradisjonene som senere ble definert som ortodoks. Han beskriver kristne i det første og det andre århundre som medlemmer av en ennå ikke forent, ortodoks tradisjon. Innen for disse emnene har han skrevet en rekke bøker, blant annet The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot: A New Look at Betrayer and Betrayed (2006); God's Problem: How the Bible Fails to Answer Our Most Important Question – Why We Suffer (2008); og Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why (2005). Sistnevnte havnet på avisen New York Times’ liste over bestselger.
