Halford John Mackinder (født 15. februar 1861 i Gainsborough i England, død 6. mars 1947) var en britisk geograf og en av sin samtids viktigste teoretikere innenfor geopolitikk og geostrategi[trenger referanse]. For ettertiden er han mest kjent for kjernelandsteorien, som i korthet går ut på at kontrollen over det sentrale Eurasia er nøkkelen til verdensherredømmet.
