Usama Riaz (urdu: اسامہ ریاض; født i 1994 i Gilgit-Baltistan i Pakistan, død 23. mars 2020) var en pakistansk lege som døde av sykdom han pådro seg under pleie av pasienter med covid-19.[1]
Usama Riaz hadde vinteren 2020 som en av sine oppgaver å sjekke helsen til pilegrimer som vendte tilbake fra Pakistan fra Iran.[2]
Han behandlet også folk på intensivbehandling som hadde fått covid-19, og det trass i manglende eller utilstrekkelig personlig verneutstyr,[3][4] noe som utsatte ham for økt fare for å bli smittet.[5][6]
Riaz døde 23. mars 2020 av covid-19-komplikasjoner, i en alder av 26 år.[5] Usama Riaz var den første pakistanake lege som døde av viruset.[7]
Den 27. mars 2020 ble han posthumt hedret med Nishan-e-Kashmir, statens høyeste utmerkelse, av premierministeren for Azaa Kashmir for sin uselviske oppofrelse og innsats.[1] Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, Chief Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan, omtalte hans død som en nasjonal tragedie.[8]
