Privatliv[rediger]
John Turturro ble født i Brooklyn i New York City, sønn av Katherine og Nicholas Turturro, henholdsvis jazzsangerinne og snekker. Han har to brødre, læreren Ralph og skuespilleren Nicholas, og er fetteren til skuespilleren Aida Turturro, som spiller Janice Soprano i Sopranos. Har sine aner fra Giovinazzo i Italia, som faren emigrerte fra som seksåring.
Karriere[rediger]
Turturro fikk sin skuespillerutdannelse State University of New York og Yale School of Drama. Han debuterte i Martin Scorceses Raging Bull (1980), og har siden spilt i over 60 filmer og TV-serier. Han er spesielt kjent for sitt utstrakte samarbeid med Spike Lee og Joel og Ethan Coen.
Turturro har mottatt en rekke priser og nominasjoner for sitt skuespill. Blant annet vant han i 2004 en Emmy Award for sin innsats i den amerikanske TV-serien Monk, og i 1991 vant han Best Actor Award i filmfestivalen i Cannes for tittelrollen i Barton Fink.
