Beskrivelse

Front view of the "Elder Lady Mummy" found in tomb KV35. Note that this image displays the extensive damage thought to be done by ancient tomb robbers to the chest of the mummy.

Image derived from Grafton Elliot Smith's "The Royal Mummies" (Plate XCVII), which was first published in 1912. The author died in 1937 so the book/image is in the public domain.

Recent genetic tests have conclusively demonstrated that this individual was the mother of the remains found in KV55, now thought (but not proven) to be that of Akhenaten. The JAMA eSupplement from Feb. 17, 2010 concludes that "The family pedigree was completed by the identification of KV35 Elder Lady as a daughter of Yuya and Thuya (99.99999929%), indicating that she could be Queen Tiye. This was confirmed by the calculation of the kinship of Amenhotep III and KV35 Elder Lady as father and mother of KV55, which revealed a probability of 99.99999964%." (eSupplement, p.3).

Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).
