Beskrivelse An aerial view of the U.S. Navy Philadelphia Naval Shipyard looking east, showing many vessels moored in the Navy Intermediate Ship Maintenance Facility. The shipyard closed on 30 September 1995, but the NISMF continued to store decommissioned and mothballed ships. The mothballed ships shown here: USS Iowa (BB-61) and USS Wisconsin (BB-64); the heavy cruiser USS Des Moines (CA-134); the aircraft carriers USS Forrestal (CV-59), and USS Saratoga (CV-60); the amphibious assault ships USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) and USS Guadalcanal (LPH-7), two Wichita-class replenishment oliers (AOR); two ammunition ships (AE); four guided missile cruisers (CG); two landing dock ships (LPD); and numerous destroyers, guided missile destroyers and frigates.
