Beskrivelse

'Negro drinking at "Colored" water cooler in streetcar terminal, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma' - 35mm nitrate negative of a photo by Russell Lee, depicting the seperate but equal era.

Title kept original; obviously language has moved on. (See the Wikipedia article on the term for the history, but long story short, the history of terminology for African-Americans has a lot of once-acceptable terms that are not acceptable today. Roughly speaking, they go out of favour once racists start using them: For example, signs like these were not helping the term "colored people" not get laced with racist connotations, despite a few decades earlier it being used in the name of the NAACP.)

Note that, while there is a theoretically higher-resolution source, File:"Colored" drinking fountain from mid-20th century with african-american drinking.jpg, that has some severe damage, like the blur on the left side (below the hand on the sign)

As Adam lives in Britain, which makes it incredibly easy to acquire copyright in his works, he grants, if needed, an irrevokable license to use this work however you see fit. He requests attribution where possible, and realises that "where possible" means that that request is not legally enforcable. Adam Cuerden (diskusjon) 15:44, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
