George Linus Cobb (født 31. august 1886, død 25. desember 1942)[4] var en produktiv komponist som var mest kjent for å lage ragtime, både som instrumentalkomposisjoner og ragtimesanger, selv om han skrev annen musikk som marsjer og valser. Jack Yellen skrev ofte tekstene til sangene.

Like etter at han begynte på Syracuse University i 1905 utga han sin første komposisjon. Hans mest kjente verk er The Russian Rag basert (ganske løst) på Rakhmaninovs Preludium i cis-Moll, op.3, nr.2. Dette stykket ble komponert etter at en venn tilsynelatende utfordret Cobb om han våget å forsøke å lage ragtime ut av stykket på restauranten. Han tok imot utfordringen, satte seg ved pianoet og begynte å spille. Til hans overraskelse satt Rakhmaninov i den samme restauranten. Han gikk bort til Cobb etter at han var ferdig å spille og sa «Nice rag, but you've got the wrong rhythm.»[trenger referanse]

Foruten å komponere hadde Cobb en spalte i magasinet The Tuneful Yankee, som ble lansert i 1917 og som skiftet navn til Melody i 1918. Spalten var kjent for sin syrlige stil.
