Recent changes
- In the Vector 2022 skin, logged-out users using the full-width toggle will be able to see the setting of their choice even after refreshing pages or opening new ones. This only applies to wikis where Vector 2022 is the default. [1]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 February. It will be on all wikis from 9 February (calendar).- Previously, we announced when some wikis would be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. These switches will not be announced any more, as the read-only time has become non-significant. Switches will continue to happen at 7AM UTC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. [2]
- Across all the wikis, in the Vector 2022 skin, logged-in users will see the page-related links such as "What links here" in a new side menu. It will be displayed on the other side of the screen. This change had previously been made on Czech, English, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. [3]
- Community Wishlist Survey 2023 will stop receiving new proposals on Monday, 6 February 2023, at 18:00 UTC. Proposers should complete any edits by then, to give time for translations and review. Voting will begin on Friday, 10 February.
Future changes
Gadgets and user scripts will be changing to load on desktop and mobile sites. Previously they would only load on the desktop site. It is recommended that wiki administrators audit the gadget definitions prior to this change, and add skins=…for any gadgets which should not load on mobile. More details are available.

Problems
- On wikis where patrolled edits are enabled, changes made to the mentor list by autopatrolled mentors are not correctly marked as patrolled. It will be fixed later this week. [4]

Problems
- Last week, during planned maintenance of Cloud Services, unforeseen complications forced the team to turn off all tools for 2–3 hours to prevent data corruption. Work is ongoing to prevent similar problems in the future. [9]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 February. It will be on all wikis from 23 February (calendar).
- The voting phase for the Community Wishlist Survey 2023 ends on 24 February at 18:00 UTC. The results of the survey will be announced on 28 February.

This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:
- The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
- They are beginning a new project, Edit check.
Talk pages project
The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Diskusjonsverktøy.
It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Nytt emne" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.
An A/B test for Diskusjonsverktøy on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Diskusjonsverktøy. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.
New Project: Edit Check
The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publiser endringene". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Wikimedia Foundation tester overgangen mellom hoved- og reservedatasentrene sine. Dette skal sikre at Wikipedia og de andre Wikimedia-wikiene forblir online selv om en katastrofe skulle oppstå. For å sikre at alt fungerer, trenger Wikimedias teknologiske avdeling til å utføre en planlagt test. Denne testen vil vise om det er mulig å bytte fra det ene datasenteret til det andre uten problemer. Det vil kreve mye arbeid for å forberede testen og fikse eventuelle problemer.
All trafikk flyttes til et annet datasenter 1 mars. Testen starter 14:00 UTC (15:00 norsk tid).
På grunn av noen begrensninger i MediaWiki må all redigering stoppes mens vi bytter. Vi beklager forstyrrelsen, og jobber med å minimere den i framtida.

Andre ting verdt å nevne:
- Bakgrunnsjobber kan ta lengre tid og noen kan bli avbrutt eller terminert. Røde lenker vil ikke oppdateres like raskt som normalt. Hvis du oppretter en artikkel som er lenket til et annet sted, så vil lenken være rød lengre enn vanlig. Noen skript som tar lang tid vil stoppe.
- Vi forventer at utrulling av kode vil skje på samme måte som ellers. Enkelte kodeutrullinger kan imidlertid bli forsinket hvis de påvirkes av denne endringen.
- GitLab blir utilgjengelig i rundt halvannen time.

Problems
- Last week, in some areas of the world, there were problems with loading pages for 20 minutes and saving edits for 55 minutes. These issues were caused by a problem with our caching servers due to unforseen events during a routine maintenance task. [13][14]
