English: The U.S. Navy fleet oiler USS Tallulah (AO-50) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Virginia (USA), 10 October 1942. She has PT-111 and PT-112 loaded on her forward deck. She appears to be painted in Camouflage Measure 15. Another oiler, unidentified, is astern of her. The British battleship HMS Queen Elzabeth and another foreign warship are in the dry docks in the background at extreme left. Also note the refrigerated boxcar at extreme left center. Tallulah got underway for New York on 17 October 1942, eveantually reaching Nouméa, New Caledonia, on 12 December. The PT boats later operated around Guadalcanal and both were sunk off Cape Esperance, PT-111 on 1 February 1943 and PT-112 on 11 January 1943. |
