English: Sinking of SS Athenia, September 1939
An elderly woman is hoisted aboard the American cargo steamship City of Flint after spending the night in a lifeboat. She had been rescued from the passenger liner Athenia which was torpedoed by U-30 on the evening of 3 September 1939 off the north west coast of Ireland and sank the next morning.
