English: Hermann Castle is located on the Estonian-Russian border. It sits across from the Ivangorod Fortress in Russia. The castle was originally built by Danes, first in wood, and then in stone. The castle changed hands several times over the the centuries. It belonged to the Danes, then Russians, the Swedes, and then the Russians once more before being turned over to Estonia. The castle suffered bombing damage during the Second World War and was thoroughly restored soon after. The castle now houses the Narva Museum.
