Burton Yost Berry (født 31. august 1901 i Fowler i Indiana i USA, død 22. august 1985) var en amerikansk diplomat og kunstsamler.[3]
Biografi[rediger | rediger kilde]
Berry studerte ved Indiana University. I 1928 begynte han i United States Foreign Service.
Berry tjenestegjorde som visekonsul i Istanbul i Tyrkia fra 1929 til 1931, konsul i Athen i 1938, Istanbul 1943, București i 1944, direktør for State Department's Office of African, South Asian and Near East Affairs i 1947, i Budapest i 1948, og var USAs ambassadør til Irak fra 1952 til 1954.[3] Etter at han gikk i pensjon, bodde han i Istanbul, Beirut, Kairo og til sist i Zürich.[3]
Tidlig i karrieren begynte Berry å samle på tekstiler, mynter, smykker og andre antikviteter fra Midt-Østen. Tekstilsamlngen ble donert til Art Institute of Chicago.[4] Mannge av myntene ble donert til American Numismatic Society.[5] Mye av det øvrige ble donert til Indiana University Art Museum.[6]
