Peter Brown (historiker)

Peter Robert Lamont Brown (f. 1935) er en irsk historiker, som for tiden er professor i historie ved Princeton University.

Peter Brown ble født i Dublin, Irland, i en protestantisk familie. Han er en medlem i All Souls College ved Universitetet i Oxford. Brown har undervist ved universitetet i Oxford, London og Berkley, der han for tiden er Philip and Beulah Rollins Professor of History. Brown har hatt stor medvirkning i å øke interessen rundt den historiske perioden senantikken.

Brown, som leser minst femten forskjellige språk, etablerte seg selv som 32-åring med sin biografi om Augustin av Hippo. Han har siden gitt ut en rekke bøker og artikler, og er i dag den mest fremtredende senantikkhistorikeren.
