Münchhausens syndrom by proxy

Münchhausens syndrom by proxy («Münchausens syndrom ved stedfortreder»), forkortet MBP, er en psykiatrisk forstyrrelse der en omsorgsperson skaper falske symptomer hos et annet menneske ved å påføre det sykdom eller skade for å tilfredsstille sine egne indre behov. Offeret er som regel barnet til personen som dermed får oppmerksomhet og sympati som lidende forelder.

Syndromet er i slekt med Münchhausens syndrom og har navn etter baron von Münchhausen, en tysk adelsmann og skrønemaker fra 1700-tallet.
