Leonard Bloomfield
Leonard Bloomfield (født 1. april 1887, død 18. april 1949) var en amerikansk lingvist. Han var en av de amerikanske strukturalistene. Hans hovedverk Language ble første gang utgitt i 1933. Den beskrev lingvistikkens situasjon på hans tid, og Bloomfield dominerte utviklingen av strukturalismen i lingvistikken fra 1930-årene og til han døde. Han var en av grunnleggerne av Linguistic Society of America.
Hans filosofi kan i hovedsak karakteriseres ved at han brukte behavioristiske prinsipper for studiet av mening, ved vekten han la på formelle prosedyrer for analyse av språklige data og ved en generell vekt på å utstyre lingvistikken med en sterk vitenskapelig metodelære. Fra 1960-tallet overtok generativ grammatikk strukturalismens plass.
Bloomfield begynte også studiet av algonquiansk språk med sin rekonstruksjon av proto-algonquiansk. Hans studie av dette språket er en hjørnestein for språket til denne dag.
