Jord

«Jord» har flere betydninger.
Jord utgjør pedosfæren og ligger i grensesnittet mellom litosfæren, biosfæren, atmosfæren og hydrosfæren. Den består av mineraler og organisk stoff, blant annet levende organismer.
Jord er blant våre viktigste naturressurser på grunn av sin strategiske plassering og dens dynamiske, fysiske, kjemiske og biologiske funksjoner. Selv om det begrepet jord er vel etablert, er definisjonene varierende, alt etter perspektiv og bruksområde. Jord er alt løsmateriale oppå det faste fjellet.
