Hertha BSC Berlin er den mest kjente fotballklubben i Berlin. Etter en tung sesong 2009/2010, med kun en seier etter de 19 første kampene måtte "die Alte Dame" ta turen ned til 2. Bundesliga. Hertha mistet da spillere som Gojko Kacar, Cicero, Theofanis Gekas (tilbake til Eintracht Frankfurt fra lån) og Arne Friedrich(fast på det tyske VM-laget i 2010).
Det har vært tre nordmann innom klubben. Jan Halvor Halvorsen spilte der fra 1988-1992, Kjetil Rekdal var kaptein for Hertha BSC, og spilte i klubben fra 1997-2000. Han noterte seg for 6 scoringer på 64 kamper. Rekdal ble fort en helt blant de trofaste Hertha-supporterne. Trond Fredrik Ludvigsen var den andre, som kun var der en sesong.
Hertha BSC har ellers slitt mye med økonomien, og har flere ganger vært på randen av konkurs. Dette senest på 2000-tallet.
