Egil Hovland

Egil Hovland (født 18. oktober 1924 i Råde) er en norsk kordirigent og organist og en av Norges mest produktive samtidskomponister. Produksjonen omfatter symfoniske verk, kammermusikk, korverk, konserter (for ulike soloinstrumenter), opera, kirkemusikk (bibelspill, kirkeballetter, liturgisk musikk). Allment kjent er han for salmen Måne og sol med tekst av Britt G. Hallqvist. I Norsk Salmebok er han representert med en rekke melodier.

Da Egil Hovland var fire år flyttet familien til Fredrikstad. Faren dirigerte der et kor, og dette ble Egils første kontakt med musikk. Han begynte snart å få undervisning. Året han fylte 18 (1942) vikarierte han som organist i Glemmen kirke. Senere studerte han ved Oslo Musikkonservatorium og fikk eksamen i kirkemusikk. Han har studert komposisjon med bl.a. Luigi Dallapiccola og Aaron Copland . Allerede samme året som han fylte 25 år (1949) startet han sitt mangeårige daglige virke som organist i Glemmen kirke hjemme i Fredrikstad der mange kjenner ham fra. I dag er det Svein Erik Gundersen som er kantor i Glemmen kirke mens Thorgeir Sjøvold er kantor i Gamle Glemmen kirke. Begge deler en del av Fredrikstad kirkelige fellesråd.

Egil Hovland har også vært musikkanmelder i Demokraten.

I 1983 ble han Ridder av St. Olavs Orden og i 2004 ble han utnevnt til æresmedlem av Foreningen norske kordirigenter (Fonoko).

Egil Hovland stilte på Abort-motstandernes Liste i Østfold ved Stortingsvalget 2005.
