På denne hjemmesiden [1] står det følgende: "The development of GSM started in 1982, when the Conference of European Posts and Telegraphs (CEPT) formed a study group called Groupe Spécial Mobile (the initial meaning of GSM)." Oversatt: "Utviklingen av GSM startet (...) når Conference of European Posts and Telegraphs (CEPT) startet (...) en gruppe kalt Groupe Spéciale Mobile."
