Carrie Marie Underwood (født 10. mars 1983) er en amerikansk pop- / countrysanger som vant den fjerde sesongen av American Idol i 2005. Hun har siden blitt en multi-platina-selgende artist, og vunnet flere Grammy Awards. Hennes debutalbum Some Hearts har solgt til sju platinaplater og er den raskest selgende country & western-debutalbum i Nielsen SoundScan-historien.

Underwood er barn av Stephen og Carole Underwood i Muskogee, Oklahoma. Hun vokste opp på en gård i Checotah, Oklahoma. Hun har to eldre søstre, Shanna Underwood Means (født 1970) og Stephanie Underwood Shelton (født 1973), som begge er barneskolelærere i Oklahoma. Carrie gikk ut av Checotah High School i 2001 og gikk deretter på Northeastern State University i Tahlequah. Hun gikk ut med bachelorgrad i massekommunikasjon. Hun deltok i flere skjønnhetskonkurranser og fikk andreplassen som Miss NSU i 2004.

Sommeren 2004 prøvesang Carrie for American Idol i St. Louis. 22. mars 2005 sang hun åttitallshiten «Alone» av Heart, og dommer Simon Cowell spådde at hun ville vinne konkurransen og selge flere plater enn tidligere vinnere av American Idol. Carrie kom aldri blant de siste tre som fikk minst stemmer, og 25. mai 2005 vant hun den fjerde sesongen av American Idol.
