Awdalland (somali:Awdalland, arabisk:أرض أودال) er en region nordvest i Somalia. Med Borama i Awdal-provinsen som hovedstad, erklærte lederne av territoriet en autonom stat i 2010.

Historie [rediger]
Awdalland (også stavet Adal eller Adel) har fått sitt navn etter middelalderriket, Adal sultanatet, som ble er maktfaktor på 1700-tallet. Området langs den etiopiske grensen har en stor mengde ruinbyer, som ble beskrevet av den britiske oppdagelsesreisende Richard F. Burton.[1]
En moderne separatist bevegelse, kjent som republikken Awdalland,[2] forsøkte å få sin uavhengighet i 1995 etter at regimet til Mohamed Siad Barre var blitt kastet.
I 2010, ble det offisielt dannet en ny autonom region innenfor det føderale Somalia, omtalt som Awdalland eller Adal staten. Den lokale administrasjonen anerkjenner ikke separatistregjeringen i Somaliland sitt krav på uavhengighet.[3][4]

Awdalregionen i Awdalland er hovedsakelig bebodd av somaliere fra Gadabuursi-klanene.[5][6]
