Antonio Damasio

Antonio Damasio (portugisisk António Rosa Damásio, født 25. februar 1944 i Lisboa) er professor i nevrovitenskap ved University of Southern California, hvor han er leder for Brain and Creativity Institute.

Foruten å være en kjent forsker på flere områder innen nevrologi og nevrovitenskap, er Damasio forfatter av flere bestselgende bøker som beskriver hans vitenskapelig tenkning. Damasio studerte medisin ved Universitetet i Lisboa, der han også spesialiserte seg i nevrologi og fullførte sin doktorgrad.

Senere flyttet han til USA som stipendiat og han begynte ved Afasi Research Center i Boston. Damasio er medlem av American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Sciences og Det europeiske akademi for vitenskap og kunst. Damasio har mottatt mange utmerkelser, blant annet Beaumont Medal fra American Medical Association, Nonino-prisen og i 2005 mottok han Fyrsten av Asturias' pris for naturvitenskap og teknologi. Damasio er gift med Hanna Damasio, hans kollega og hyppige medforfatter.
